IDC Ranks Progress as the Largest Pure-play Embedded DBMS Vendor

While dominated by the huge numbers of the larger players, the database management system (DBMS) markets create the impression that there is little growth opportunity possible with this technology. Nothing could be further from the truth. This technology offers great growth potential in several of its more specialized forms, including embedded DBMS. By definition, an embedded DBMS is a DBMS sold and used as a component of a larger software or hardware product.

IDC’s Worldwide Embedded DBMS 2007-2011 Forecast and 2006 Vendor Shares report:

  • Highlights the strength of Progress in the Embedded DBMS market
  • Ranks Progress as the largest pure-play (a company that sells only, or almost only, through the embedded channel) with a 14.1% market share
  • Discusses forecasts and future trends in the market, as well as providing vendor rankings
