When Robert Meengs started as a Mendix Developer at Intersolve in April 2023, he knew one thing for sure, he didn't just want to build software, he also wanted to build his own growth. Now, a few years later, he feels completely at home.
"What I love about our team," says Robert, "is that everyone here really does what they are good at. Some are strong in technology, others in design or in contact with stakeholders. You are not pigeonholed here, but encouraged to discover what gives you the most energy. As long as you are open to discussion, you can actually go in any direction."
Robert started his career in IT immediately after graduating. He quickly realised that his heart lies in implementing software within consultancy, building bridges between customers and technology, and influencing that process himself. And that is exactly what he does now at Intersolve.
"Pretty soon after I started, I was given the lead on a large project." he recalls. "I brought all the stakeholders together, gathered their wishes and translated them into concrete user stories. Being given so much responsibility was a great learning experience. It also confirmed that Intersolve places a lot of trust in its employees."
Although Robert originally had more experience with back-end development, his role at Intersolve has become much broader. "I now also work on the front-end, on the applications that customers use on a daily basis. That was new to me, but that's what makes it interesting. I am given the space to discover, learn and shape my role myself. If you show initiative, Intersolve really thinks along with you." and that is necessary, because the world in which Intersolve operates is quite complex. "The systems behind gift cards and loyalty programmes are really a profession in their own right. It can be a bit of a puzzle at times, but that keeps me on my toes. If something is too easy, I quickly lose my sense of challenge."
What makes Robert's work even more exciting is that Mendix is not used as a stand-alone tool within his team. "We combine Mendix with all kinds of other techniques and programming languages. That means I'm constantly learning new things."
In addition to the content of his work, it is mainly the atmosphere that makes Robert feel at home at Intersolve. "I think it's great that the company is growing, but still remains personal. No hassle with endless layers or bureaucracy, you can just walk into anyone's office. Everyone is there for each other, regardless of your position or how long you've been working here."
This also applies within his own team. "Everyone has their own talents and we really complement each other. You notice that you help each other, and that helps you develop faster. That culture makes all the difference."
Robert has a valuable tip for those just starting at Intersolve: "Be patient and ask lots of questions. The subject matter can be quite overwhelming at first, and that's okay. You'll be given the time you need to get to grips with it. So don't put too much pressure on yourself, it will come naturally if you give yourself the space."
